Jannik Piepenburg is a research associate and PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. His research focusses on capital markets law with a special consideration of financial crime in connection with the application of DLT/Blockchain. His PhD thesis analyses different appearances of financial crime according to the trade of tokens and corresponding derivatives on secondary markets. Furthermore, his master´s thesis (LL.M.oec.) analyses the classification of bitcoins under the EU or rather German capital markets and banking law with special regards to a corresponding judgment of the High Court of Berlin.
